Bob Pelshaw was a successful Midwestern real estate broker, developer, and consultant specializing in free-standing retail projects for national and regional retailers, as well as private shopping centers, office buildings, multi-family projects, and leadership development. His twenty-five year career included service as a state officer for the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) plus over $600 Million in career transactions. Along the way he also invested in, or consulted for, various other types of businesses including laundromats, a janitorial company, brokerage, convenience stores, grocery stores, retail stores, car wash, a restaurant, barber shops, construction companies, a resort hotel, property management, rental properties, self-storage facilities, a health club, marketing organizations, and others. Pelshaw served numerous non-profit groups including being a Director and Officer for the local Big Brothers Big Sisters Chapter, his church, and most notably as an Associate Trainer for Dr. John C. Maxwell’s global non-profit ministry Equip. Through Equip, Pelshaw has taught leadership globally to thousands. The Great Recession found Pelshaw financially over-extended. Coupled with trusting the wrong people, and some bad business decisions made, Pelshaw suffered a catastrophic loss of a multi-million dollar asset base. In his efforts to stay afloat and “rob Peter to pay Paul” Pelshaw stupidly temporarily misused $135,000 of SBA loan proceeds which caused him to receive a felony and serve a ten-month sentence at Leavenworth Federal Prison Camp. An essential book for all who are inspired to use their God given entrepreneurial skills to become financially independent. A great guide for those whom have tried illegal enterprises, failed and are now on the straight and narrow. There are many books about business, but Bob has put together a great work on how to utilize your passion to become a successful business owner. His years of business experience and knowledge make this a must have resource for all. The book is a testimony that opportunity abounds for all who will apply themselves and refuse to be counted out. Bob doesn’t just tell you how to succeed, but he gives you meaningful tools and material to assist you in your business endeavor. He also authored Raising up the Champion within You: David & Goliath Grown-Up Version.

I read "Illegal to Legal" and was amazed at the ability of a single book to provide a clear path to success for anyone that has been incarcerated. The author is well aware of the additional obstacles that face each individual that wants to start a business after being released from prison.
I personally recommend this book to anyone that has a loved one currently incarcerated. This book gives the one thing that is almost priceless in prison and that is hope. After reading "Illegal to Legal" you realize that hope can turn into reality if you just don't give up and focus on the skills you have had all along, but never realized.

"Illegal to Legal" is a compelling read for anyone interested in establishing and maintaining a business. I have the pleasure of volunteering at Book 'Em, an organization devoted to enriching lives of those incarcerated by sending them donated books. The most frequent requests from prisoners are those dealing with instructional guides for establishing businesses. "Illegal to Legal" is the most informative and helpful "how to" publication in Book 'Em's inventory. I can imagine the impact this amazing book would have if Book 'Em could get a copy into every driven ex-offender's possession.

About the Author

Hirokazu Kanazawa is the most respected figure in the karate world today, and a close disciple of Gichin Funakoshi, the father of modern karate and founder of the Shotokan school. Kanazawa founded the Shotokan Karate-do International Federation in 1979, after gaining his impressive reputation in Hawaii, the U.S. mainland, and Europe as an official trainer for the Japan Karate Association. The Shotokan Karate-do International Federation now has branches in more than 90 countries throughout the world. Kanazawa is the author of Karate Fighting Techniques published by Kodansha.

An excellent basic guide to Shotokan Karate.

It is important to note that the title can be a little misleading. This book is more for beginners and intermediate Shotokan Karate students. The lessons and photos are clear and easy to understand; however, one cannot learn true Shotokan Karate without actually training under an instructor. The real value of this excellent book is that if it is used in conjunction with hands-on training under a Shotokan Karate teacher, this volume will be of great value. There are six detailed chapters in this text.

In conclusion, this is a book any Shotokan Karate student and/or teacher who wants to further understand the techniques and tactics of Shotokan Karate.

A great book from a great master

From my point of view, Mr. Kanazawa is the greatest karate master alive. I never had the chance to see him "live" on a training course, but lots of video tapes fell into my hand throughout the years. As I love books, I always wanted to read his work, so I've chosen this one to start with. It was not a surprise for me that the book is as good as its author, professionally written and illustrated, in a high quality print.

Great as an overview and training reference

Whether one can learn well enough from books to acheive "Black Belt" level knowledge and skills is very debateable, to be sure. A lot I think depends on the person, how perceptive they are, how much previous training/experience in martial arts they might of had, and so on (even black belt practitioners from a school can vary a lot in quality). Generally, I feel the best use of books like this is as a reference and aid to one who is in a class already, or to one who is looking for a good overview of Shotokan Karate. This book will serve as an authoritative depiction of what is the "kihon," or individual techniques of Shotokan (punches, kicks, blocks, etc.), along with a few kata (forms), an introduction to basic kumite (sparring), and an overview of some training techniques, etc. Thus, all by itself this book will not provide all the knowledge one needs as a "black belt" practitioner. One will also need a lot more in the way of kata and kumite. These latter two can be aquired in Kanazawas other two titles, "Karate: The Complete Kata," and "Karate Fighting Techniques." Also, it's really important to see the techniques in motion, either live (preferable) and/or in video (try Youtube) to get an accurate idea of how the techniques work dynamically. Then it's important to take all the information you have acquired and to practice, practice, practice in a very conscientious way. A teacher can be very important to give objective feedback, but whether one has a teacher or not, there is no substitute for ones own careful attention to detail and diligent practice.

I wanted to note also, that although the title says that this book is an "intensive course," one must be careful not to progress through the material too quickly. In the real world most people need to be very patient with themselves, and should not rush their training; it very important to give oneself the amount of time one needs to build a strong foundation before one progresses further. Failure to do this will result in injury and poor quality technique. Thus, one should not take this book too literally as a do-it-yourself guide to black belt in a year. Keeping this in mind, I feel that this book can be very useful as an overview and an aid in ones overall effort to acquire mastery in Karate-do; that is, if one does not rely on it exclusively.

JFK: Assassination Rehearsal by Nick M. Nero, is encyclopedic in depth and breadth regarding the assassination of the 35th president of the U.S. I was in a military intelligence unit stationed on the border of the Soviet Union at the time. The greatest danger of a presidential assassination is that it can be a harbinger of some hostile nation decapitating a nation's leadership in preparation to attacking it. Such an incident can set off a chain reaction that knows no logic or bounds. Stations like mine would have been a top priority on the eradication list. The assassination had a profound effect on me and my fellow servicemen.
Nero reveals that our greatest enemy was not external, but internal. He introduces first-hand witness accounts from someone who was present at some of the assassination planning meetings. His witness provided the guidance necessary to navigate the complex course of plots, coverups, deceptions and obstructions, often from the highest levels of government, that made the assassination possible and allowed the perpetrators to go free to kill again.

As a former Miami Police Detective, State Legislator, former Marine and close family friend of Ben Fazzino and his family, I can fully attest to the depiction of Frank Sturgis as accurate and true as represented by the author Nick Nero in the "Assassination Rehearsal". Knowing both Frank Sturgis who was introduced to me by Ben Fazzino, I can tell you that Frank Sturgis was involved in many undertakings at the behest and request of the Central Intelligence Agency. Many of those operations were based in Miami, Dade County, Florida. I just did not know completely the extent until now. Frank Sturgis was truly a soldier of Fortune. I was with Ben Fazzino two days prior to his death and sat with him behind closed doors and was told many things by Ben that will remain with me until my death. Nick Nero's account in his book is absolutely true. Ben Fazzino was the real deal "Old School" Marine. Semper Fi my friend and thank you Mr. Nero for bringing all of this to the attention of the public.

We are all familiar with the tragic assassination of John F. Kennedy. Like most people I listened to the news of the day and thought I knew what happened. Nick Nero presents a well documented look at all the events of the decade from Cuba to the assassinations of JFK, Robert Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Chappaquiddick and Watergate. He presents startling new evidence and conclusions vastly different from the official narrative. Once I started reading JFK: Assassination Rehearsal l could not stop.

This book was worse than USED!

I really am not happy with this rental. The binding is breaking, the pages are wrinkled as if they were wet once. The cover is in terrible shape and it is really in awful shape! This is NOT a regular issue with Amazon, it must have fallen through the cracks somehow. I LOVE Amazon and have been satisfied with books I have gotten in the past.

This is the fifth edition of a concise, yet comprehensive review of all the modalities of dialysis and associated complications and clinical management. The ebook version that accompanies the book is user friendly and covers most of the information in the book. The goal is to provide a review of the commonly used dialysis modalities and management of associated issues. The book begins with a chapter on evaluation of predialysis patients, followed by thorough discussions of dialysis physiology, various dialysis modalities, and dialysis catheter complications. Finally, it addresses common psychosocial and medical conditions afflicting dialysis patients.

This will be an excellent tool for residents, renal fellows, general nephrologists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and internists. The book provides concise yet thorough information on the management of dialysis patients based on current evidence and practice guidelines. It also covers dialysis management in children and during pregnancy and includes a chapter on the management of bone disease. The 40 chapters are divided into four parts. The first part discusses management of advanced CKD patients and their transition into dialysis, renal transplant, or palliative care. The next 18 chapters discuss the basics of hemodialysis and dialysis access, followed by complications. The next part has extensive discussions of peritoneal dialysis, while the final part addresses the medical conditions and psychosocial issues affecting dialysis patients. Outstanding insights and wisdom from plenty of business pros

Short, tightly written, lots of great stories.

Hattori's book is broken down into sections covering; dealing with yourself, growing with others, then managing processes, then going the extra mile, then becoming a thinker and writer.

This will give anyone better focus, better ideas and better results in their business life - whether your in a corporate environment or entrepreneurial.

McKinsey Edge is most highly recommended!

May not be official McKinsey but still pretty useful

I am reviewing a copy of "The McKinsey Edge" by Shu Hattori that I received at no cost through the Amazon Vine program.

I'll get to the point - I really like that Hattori focuses on improving the person (in this case, the consultant) as well as the team and business. While the book feels a little out of sync when talking about the consultant's nearly 24-hour day compared with my much shorter workday, I do appreciate his attentiveness to a person's energy and ability to focus.

His points on meetings and presentation are probably better than some advice but not necessarily suited for every situation. Much of the advice he offers isn't that different from what I've read elsewhere but to see it collected in one brief and accessible book makes this more of a go-to book than some of the other business and leadership advice books I've read.

I will say that this doesn't appear to be an official McKinsey publication. Rather, this is written from the perspective of someone who worked well and rose quickly through the ranks at McKinsey and then moved on, so take it as one person's perspective rather than a how-to book from McKinsey.

As a new manager I am always looking for books that can help me succeed and this is one of those that I read the first few pages on and instantly pulled out my highlighter and started marking quotes and sentences that I wanted to make sure I could come back to easily. The book is a quick read but it contains a lot of powerful information for leaders. I highly recommend this book if you are in a position of influence or want to be.
