I was afraid to write too much for fear people wouldn't stop to read it.  Wow. There was so much more than I expected in this book. I have looked for years for solid answers about applying for jobs. This situation is made worse because of all the questionable information online…what’s good? What’s not?

 Well this book definitely sets the record straight. What immediately stands out is the book says everything I know I'm supposed to say…it just says it better than I could in any of my attempts. The sections on emotions and confidence are so original and so powerful, it almost falls in the category of “I gotta see it to believe it.” It literally changed how I see the world.

 I know that people like to throw out book suggestions to make themselves seem really smart or interesting, but this book stands out because it explains so many things in an easy to read way that really makes sense. A tool rather than airy bland bullet points from some random website on what you “ought” to do.

I am a Career Services Professional…this book is a 10/10.

Based on all of the online ‘hype’, I took a chance and picked up a copy of this book. Being out of work, I had already applied to a couple of jobs, but I was getting no responses. Like zero. Following the book’s suggestion, the first thing I did was ‘borrow’ a couple of thank-you note examples and sent them off. And the very next day I get a call to interview, and I’m like “what the…”

Even with a B.S. degree in Social Work and years of experience helping countless others with job placement, I felt totally frazzled now being the one having to ‘go out there’ and get a job. Day one, I receive the book in the mail and its paid off within 24-hours. So on Wednesday I went in to my interview, and fortunately I studied the Q&A and negotiating salary section…that saved me when the subject turned to money. He asks, “how much did you get paid at your last job?” and I responded with exact same answer I memorized straight out of the book and not only did I avoid that classic trap, I actually ended up bumping up my hourly.

Yesterday (Thursday) I received my job offer. Started working today :) Thank you Hans, your book got me hired.

AMAZING... IT WORKS!!

It Is with great pleasure that I put my voice on paper! After spending many years working in an entry level position, working hard with no reward in return, it was like I showed up, clocked in, and clocked out, without my presence being felt or heard. I wanted more. I wanted a career but my confidence had been stepped all over for so many years! my boyfriend had read this book and was amazed! He strongly encouraged me to read this book and after reading it, he said my life would change drastically, and it did! An Administration position opened up, now never in a million years would I have ever applied, however after studying Hans's material, I realized that I have been settling for so many years and that I deserve more, to be heard, I deserve to install my voice in the professional world. I followed all the steps that the book talked about, and you know what? One morning I woke up and was a new person, I felt like I was a BOSS!! I felt that no matter what, I would be able to succeed and my mental state took its path that led me to obtain a career that not only pays me WAY more than what I was paid before, but has led me to be recognized by all my colleagues and most importantly I have left an imprint into our company's values and objectives. I now have a stable and promising career as a Workflow Analyst at a major hospital in California!
I highly recommend this book "Interview Like A Boss" to anybody who strives for success and more importantly to those who struggle to live life due to obstacles that have been placed before them!

Thorough but a little dry

This book is a thorough history of American PT boat operations in World War Two. It covers all battle actions of the boats and what they accomplished in all theaters that the boats operated in -- the South Pacific, the Aleutians, and in Europe and the Mediterranean, an area of the PT boat war that, for some reaon, has had much less coverage than what these boats did in the Pacific. It also details the origins and developements of the boats, and the vastly complicated logistical problems covering huge distances that often bedeviled the boats and their crews. The book features many photographs of the boats and their crews and how they lived, as well as a complete list of every man killed or wounded on a PT boat during the war, as well as the numerous medals awarded to pt boat crews. It is a great record of these versatile boats and their courageous sailors.

Yet, it is a dry history. There is little or nothing about the men that sailed these boats into harm's way. Where did they come from? Why did they choose the dangers of a PT boat? What led them to go up against destroyers in plywood/mahongeny boats? A little bit of that and it would have been a fantastic account of the pt boats. Still, for anyone that loves naval history this is an incredible book.

A cornerstone

My father was a PT sailor during World War II in the Solomon Islands, then stateside for the last 2 years of the war. He gave me this book when it first published in the 1960's. It is the cornerstone of my library of PT boat books.

It is not the easiest book to read, but it is simply loaded with information about all PT's during the war. This book and PT 105 will give you an excellent overview of both history, and what it was like to be there.

Virtually a comprehensive work of all significant actions involving PT's. Does not describe the boat configurations at all though. This would have been a good supplement. Overall very interesting.

Starred Review. This nutritionally sound, flavor-savvy cookbook, first published in 1994, was arguably ahead of its time—at least for American readers. Of course, a wave of American dieters and nutritionists have since come to advocate Mediterranean eating habits, including a largely plant-based diet with modest amounts of proteins and plenty of good fats. Jenkins's updated and revised version will surely reach a wider audience. Jenkins, an American who has lived in Italy, France, Lebanon, Cyprus and Spain, zeros in on the dietary patterns that link these nations. Yet Jenkins's approach is hardly prescriptive; she prefers to gently encourage good habits rather than lay out a daily regime. The 250 recipes are largely traditional dishes, some of which may be novel to her readership, such as Provençal chickpea soup; Moroccan lamb tagine with apricots; and kourabiedes, Greek butter almond cookies. Jenkins has removed the nutritional data from the previous edition, which allows for a greater emphasis on the food itself. Jenkins's recipes are reliable, and though dishes like pizza made from scratch require extra time and effort, the payoff is in the slow food, Mediterranean approach: an overall respect and enjoyment for what we eat that translates into greater health. In the decade since Jenkins first revealed the Mediterranean diet’s virtues, nutritional theory has repeatedly validated its benefits. Tapas help assuage hunger with multiple intense flavors and textures. Eastern and southern shores of the Mediterranean offer their own delights with Turkish, Lebanese, and Moroccan dishes, and Jenkins includes a few examples. Classic healthful recipes

This book is well written, and the recipes are solid. Some of the recipes are not for novice cooks and could be frustrating for them. But, the recipes are well worth the time (these are NOT 30 minute meals!) and effort. I really like the snippets of history woven through the book, making certain recipes feel like they are being handed down to you.

So many good ideas!

I checked this book out of the library yesterday to give it a test drive before buying it. Well, this is a pretty short test drive -- I'm here at the dealer's lot. I'm sold!

The book has a lot of ideas that I've just not seen before. Last night I served the grilled asparagus with bitter orange and it was a refreshing change from the usual puddle of olive oil. Tonight I'm trying the fish and spinach au gratin. Tomorrow, the swordfish with almond sauce. These are three dishes I hadn't seen even though I have several cookbooks from the Mediterranean region. And the book is loaded with recipes for next week. What to try next? I'm a happy man and my family is going to be happier.

One of the features that makes the book work for me is the stories that accompany each recipe. This is such a diverse region with differing food traditions and palates that the introductory paragraphs help set a context for each recipe.

I agree with others that pictures would be nice. In 2009 there are a bunch of books on the market where the pictures are better than the recipes. But even if a picture is worth a thousand words, in the end I need the ingredients, steps, and times to put the dish together, so I can't take away a star for leaving the pictures out.

More complicated than first appears

Reading through the introductory sections of this book leads you to believe the recipes are relatively easy. Wrong! You need a million items stocked in your pantry, you need to have a source for buying gourmet mushrooms and the like, and you need quite a bit of time to actually make the recipes. Definitely not for someone who actually works for a living! Even though the recipes are delicious, I can't see myself making them more than maybe once a week on the weekend.

If you want to know what is behind Russian foreign policy zigzags - this is the book you should read!
Unlike so many "pseudo-experts" on Russia, Tsygankov has hands-on knowledge of Russian culture and therefore understand what others fail to grasp. Pleasure to read! Thank you Andrei for another great book!
