I was inspired by the private revelations Gregory has shared in his book. These are beautiful messages from God calling us to live out His Will, unite ourselves to Him without reservation, and to live in His unconditional love. His plan is so simple and we need to hear it over and over again.

Basic intro:covers broad beginnings but slights practical

This book covers the basic material, but other books such
as Schaum's Outline cover a lot of the same basic material. The
Appendix on the Literature section is useful as an access
point to other books on the text. Hartog's book has
more applied information. SS Rao's book has stronger
theoretical development. It is not strong on the mechanics
of performing modal analysis from a mathematical approach.
There are also better examples of LaGrange's method.
Overall it is ok for a junior year text, but needs
supplementing by the instructor. Wowk's book covers
machinery vibration better. My biggest complaint would
be that Inman doesn't cover sensing and other practical
topics well.

Great and Practical Text

This is a great book for anybody interested in vibration analysis. I have used two other vibration books in past classes but this one by far is the best one. This book is so much more practical and explains everything in plain language understood very easily. This text shows its practicality by applying MathCad, Matlab, and Mathematica in each chapter. A must have for vibration engineering students!

Great introductory text to vibrations

Used this for a course in vibrations recently. I feel it is a great book for introducing vibrations. It obviously is not meant for graduate level and it does not get very theoretical with derivations and such. I will admit the course I took only covered the first 4 chapters, so I can't really comment on the rest of the book, but those chapters include everything from basic spring/mass systems to different forcing functions applied to systems and finally to multiple degrees of freedom (all of these with and without damping).

What I liked about the book is the orderly way it presented the material. Most of the sections started with derivations of the equations for different systems and the solutions for them depending on the type of forcing function. At the end of each section there is usually a nice summary of what was done with all the equations that were derived as well as a few worked out examples. I especially liked the summary at the end of the modal analysis section (I think chapter 4) that tells you step-by-step how to do it, since I was a bit confused trying to follow the pages of derivations beforehand and put it all together.

Overall, it is a great book for an undergraduate course or anyone needing to learn vibrations with no previous knowledge on the subject. This isn't a graduate level text or meant for anyone with more than a course or two of vibrations under their belt.

Ignore the other review. All stores use pastes and sauces in their bases, just because he mentions a specific type you can get by the jar in store doesn't mean this is not a legitimate cook book. We live in the US, and we crave a proper curry from home. This book is exceptional at providing quick and simple recipes for recreating that take away taste. Mick has created a great book for people who have to make do with cooking themselves, rather than ordering a delivery.
